Massive rally of Dalits against Narasaraopet MLA's alleged land grabbing activities
GUNTUR: The issue of lease of land owned by visually challenged school in Narasaraopet is snowballing into a major controversy with Dalit organisations hitting the streets on Wednesday. The organisations demanded immediate scrapping of lease agreement entered by Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church (AELC) with a private property developer. The Dalit leaders threatened to intensify the agitation of the AELC did not withdraw the decision taken at its governing council meeting to lease about 2.09 acres of land to the private real-estate firm.
Extending moral support to the dalits and special children, ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Dr Kodela Sivaram organised the rally in which the senior leaders including district party president and Vinukonda MLA GV Anjaneyulu, former minister Peethala Sujatha, APSRTC chairman Varla Ramaiah, MLA T Sravan Kumar participated in the rally.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Kodela Sivaram alleged that a senior IT official pressurized the AELC to part with the precious land owned by the school for the visually impaired. He said that local YSRCP MLA Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy influenced the AELC authorities through his relative and IT official. “It is a clear case of quid-pro-quo. How could the relatives of IT official are partners of the real-estate firm that got the lease of property worth Rs.50 crore while the IT official is dealing with a case against AELC?,” fumed Dr Sivaram.
He said that Dr Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy was behind every scandal taking place in Narasaraopet and people were literally in a state of shock for getting voted to him in the last elections. He alleged that MLA was accused of selling Tirumala darshan tickets, adulterated milk and encroachment of school land.
Dr Kodela Sivaram said that the AELC’s decision to lease the part of the land was not only illegal but also contempt of the High Court decision. “We will not allow the property of special children to be usurped by the YSRCP goons,” he warned. He demanded that local MLA Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy to come out in open to clear his stand on the issue. He said that MLA is the direct beneficiary of the issue as his close associates were made directors of the real-estate firm which got the lease.
TDP president and MLA Anjaneylu warned of serious consequences if MLA did not back of from the encroachment of the school land. APSRTC chairman Varla Ramaiah said that MLA should have been ashamed off for resorting to such land grabbing.
State differently abled persons corporation chairman G Koteswara Rao alleged that IT officials put the AELC authorities under pressure by issuing a notice for payment of Rs.27 crore income tax. They alleged that AELC leased out the land for a paltry sum only under pressure from the IT officials. Activists submitted a representation to the revenue divisional officer seeking immediate inquiry into the issue of blind school.
