Police have registered cases on a complaint that as many as 10 members of two families went missing from here earlier this month as a voice message of a local acquaintance confirmed that the missing members were on a visit to Yemen solely to take part in religious studies.
According to the complaint registered by Special Branch wing of the police here on Tuesday, the family members of Savad 35, a resident of nearby Mogral, his first wife Naseera, 25, their three young children — Musab, 6, Marjana, 3, 11 months old Muhsil — besides Savad’s second wife Rihanth, 25, a native of Palakkad, went missing on June 14, senior police official told The Hindu .
The police complaint was lodged by Abdul Hameed, father of Savad’s first wife Naseera, a resident of nearby Chemnad grama panchayat, the official said.
In a simultaneous development, a voice message sent by Savad, who was said to be running a mobile service centre in Dubai, to his local acquaintance, on Tuesday night also confirmed that Anwar, a resident of nearby Anangoor, his wife Zeenath, 25, their two young sons Isa, 3 and Anas 6, also went missing earlier this month.
The family members were said to have reached Hami at Hadhramaut in Yemen safe on the guise of pursuing “religious studies”, the police official said.
The voice message by Savad at the same time rebuked the ideologies of religious fundamentalism as has been espoused by the Islamic State (IS) terror group.
However, unconfirmed sources said that the family members could have left here for Dubai en route Yemen some time ago.
The police have registered cases under the provisions of Kerala Police Act-57 (absconding) on the basis of the complaint lodged by Abdul Hameed.
Confirming that the National Investigating Agency (NIA) have already established contact with the local police, the official denied possibility of the family members joining the IS brigand as were the cases of 21 persons, including women and children, who went missing from the State to join the group.
The reports that trickled in here subsequently had confirmed the killing of quite a few “misled” persons in the U.S.-led air strikes in Afghanistan as the family members of the missing persons asserted that they virtually lost hope of their near ones a safe return any more.
