PATNA: The Purnia police on Wednesday recovered headless bodies of two sisters from Bilhariya Ghat in the district.
The deceased were identified as Kalavati Devi (45) and Mala Devi (36), natives of Chak village under the Jalalgarh police station area.
Police said the duo had gone missing on June 23. Their bodies were recovered from a deserted area covered with wild grass.
"A 'missing complaint' had been lodged by their nephew Manoj Tatma on June 26, three days after Mala and Kalavati hadn't returned from a market close to their home," said Jalalgarh SHO Gulam Shahbaz Alam.

The SHO told this reporter over the phone on Thursday the bodies were brutally mutilated and they could be identified with the help of their clothes. Police did not find any weapon at the spot, he said and added a search was on for the heads. "We are looking at the case from different angles, including land dispute. Some suspects have been quizzed, but a breakthrough is yet to be made," said Alam. Manoj in a fresh complaint has alleged involvement of Jamuna Tatma and Dhanlal Tatma in the kidnapping and murder of Mala and Kalavati over a land dispute.

According to another report, two minor girls were found hanging with their dupattas from a tree in Narayan Pipra Sonepur village under the Chaurahi police station area in Begusarai district on Thursday morning.
The girls, who had gone missing from their homes on Wednesday evening, were identified as 14-year-old Babli, daughter of Jogi Sahni, and 15-year-old Chanda Kumari, daughter of Puso Sahni. The Sahnis are residents of Kodvanpur village.
Police have not recovered any suicide note. "It is not clear whether it was a case of suicide or murder," a police officer said and added investigations were on.
