Purulia tribal family joins Trinamool after Amit Shah visit

Purulia tribal family joins Trinamool after Amit Shah visit
Flanked by leaders Shantanu Sen and Madan Mitra, the tribal family joined TMC at the party’s Kalighat office on Friday
KOLKATA/PURULIA: Just 24 hours after they exchanged pleasantries with BJP national president Amit Shah at their Lagdah village, the tribal family landed at Trinamool Bhawan in Kolkata. Later, at a party office in Kalighat, they claimed their allegiance had always been with Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress.
BJP quickly distanced itself from the two Lagdah-based mother-and-son duo, saying the households Shah visited on Thursday were selected randomly and that is the essence of Jan Sampark Abhiyan.
But outspoken BJP leader and Netaji’s grandnephew Chandra Bose laid bare the discomfiture. He wrote on Facebook, “I feared that after Amitji leaves for Delhi, these karyakartas will be forced to declare that they are with TMC. That’s exactly what has happened.”
Flanked by Trinamool leaders Shantanu Sen and Madan Mitra, Fuchu Rajwad — prodded occasionally by Mitra — said, “I’m a daily wage labourer. Yesterday, they had come to our home. But we are with Trinamool and Mamata Banerjee.” “We were threatened and therefore came to Mamata Banerjee’s shelter,” he added.
While Mitra and Sen took the opportunity to take on BJP saying Bengal isn’t MP or UP and they will not cede an inch, Fuchu, his mother Astami Rajbhor along with Shishubala Rajbhor and her son Sanjoy were visibly at daze with flashbulbs popping incessantly in a room teeming with mediapersons. Shishubala, unable to understand, kept her hands folded.
In Purulia’s Lagdah, the village still bore marks of the VVIP visit it has not seen before. BJP flags on small poles were hung from each house and small gatherings of locals were busy discussing how the “neta met people”.
