SHO, four others crushed to death in Saran

PATNA: Bheldi station house officer (SHO) Amit Kumar and at least four more persons were crushed to death in a road accident under Bheldi police station area in Saran district on late Saturday night.
Kumar was a sub-inspector rank police officer. It was yet not clear if any other policemen had also received injury or died in the incident.
Muzaffarpur zonal IG Sunil Kumar, while confirming the SHO's death, told TOI over phone that Kumar along with a police team was involved in clearing a road accident in which a tanker and a jeep had collided.

"While the SHO along with his team was involved in clearing road, a bus approached the spot at a very high speed and crushed several including the SHO standing on road, and fled," the IG said.
He said that some common people had also died in the accident but exact number of persons who had died, was yet to be ascertained.
"I was informed that apart from that deaths in second accident, some more people had also died in the collision between tanker and jeep," IG Kumar said.
He said Saran SP Har Kishore Rai and some other senior police officers had reached the spot. "Situation would become clear after sometime. Only then it could be told that altogether how many policemen or common people were injured or died in both the incidents," the IG said.
He said that efforts are on to trace the bus and arrest the culprits. The IG said all police stations in Saran and neighbouring districts were alerted.
Meanwhile Saran civil surgeon Lalit Mohan Prasad said that bodies of at least five persons including of the SHO was brought to sadar hospital. "Just now I reached the hospital. I would be able to say anything further only after taking account of the whole situation," he added.
