New Delhi/Bhopal, June 30
Sickened by the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said "as a nation, we must protect our children" and demanded "speedy justice" for the victim.
Congress leader and Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, too, sought a CBI probe into the gangrape. He alleged that the BJP government in state had failed to protect women and Dalits.
On Twitter, Gandhi said: “In Mandsaur, MP, an 8-year-old girl was kidnapped and gangraped, and is battling for her life. The brutality this young child was subjected to sickens me... As a nation, we must come together to protect our children and bring the attackers to speedy justice.” At a meet-the-press programme in Bhopal, Scindia said: “CBI inquiries should be carried out into the Mandsaur gangrape and the burning alive of a Dalit farmer in Bhopal last week.”

Girl’s condition better
The condition of the eight-year-old rape victim was ‘continuously improving’ and she was likely to be discharged in two weeks, a medical official said. “She is out of danger. We have started giving her solid food. She is conscious and talking to her parents,” hospital superintendent VS Pal said.
