Section 144 imposed in Narasaraopet

Tension mounted in Narasaraopet town amid fears of clash between TDP and YSRC workers on Saturday.

GUNTUR: Tension mounted in Narasaraopet town amid fears of clash between TDP and YSRC workers on Saturday. YSRC MLA Dr G Srinivas Reddy was put under house arrest by police to restrain him from holding a public meeting. However, Reddy managed to escape from his house and later staged a protest, along with other party workers in front of RDO’s office. Narasaraopet DSP K Nageswara Rao said the police imposed Section 144 of CrPC to maintain law and order and avoid untoward incidents in Narasaraopet town.

For the past few days, TDP leaders were alleging that Reddy had illegally acquired land of a school for the blind. Refuting the allegation, YSRC local leaders asked their TDP counterparts to prove it.
As such, Reddy and other party leaders had decided to hold a public meeting on Saturday and asked TDP leaders to join them and prove allegations.

Addressing a press conference, Reddy said that documents shown by TDP leaders were fake and he did not acquire the said land. He said he was innocent and ready to answer the allegations if they were up for the challenge.  Sensing possible trouble, police denied YSRC leaders permission to conduct meeting and imposed restrictions under CrPC 144 section.
