Equipment Showcase: Construction Equipment

Successfully operating a power plant or other industrial complex depends on many things, including the vendors who supply equipment for construction of the facility, along with those who provide the materials and services needed to keep the plant humming. The power plant segment comprises a large part of the demand for construction equipment, which researchers say will be about a $210 billion market by 2020, growing about 5% year-over-year. Some of the leading manufacturers and service companies for construction equipment serving the power generation industry are featured here.

Terex Features Flexibility in Aerial Devices

Terex provides a variety of products for utilities, including the company’s Hi-Ranger Overcenter Aerial Devices. The devices can be mounted on several different chassis platforms, providing working heights from 47 feet to 65.3 feet, helping with insulator replacement or trimming of vegetation. The device’s side reach ranges from 27.1 feet to 53.2 feet, providing flexibility for a number of jobs. Terex offers the device in several configurations, some with material-handling capabilities. There also are optional articulations. Terex can provide what it calls a “green solution”—its HyPower IM is an E-PTO plug-in efficiency system. The system reduces utility truck engine idling for boom operation and cab comfort. The system manages the chassis engine for higher horsepower requirements, moving the boom with integrated battery power for incremental movements. The design optimizes the system to provide a low weight for increased payload capacity versus other products. The system is quiet and Terex says it can save up to 1,200 gallons of fuel annually.
