A second-year undergraduate student of Ernakulam Maharaja's College, who was a member of the Students Federation of India (SFI) in Idukki, was stabbed to death allegedly by members of Campus Front following a clash over wall graffiti welcoming newcomers to the campus on Monday morning.
Abhimanyu (20), a student of B.Sc Environmental Chemistry and a resident of Vatavada in Idukki, died of his injuries immediately after he was brought to the nearby Government General Hospital.
Arjun (19), an undergraduate student of Philosophy and SFI member, sustained serious stab injuries in the clash. He was rushed to the Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital. The hospital authorities said his condition was critical.
Police said that three persons owing allegiance to the Campus Front, the students wing of National Development Front, were detained in connection with the incident. The hunt for the remaining suspects was on, they said.
Principal K. N. Krishna Kumar said regular classes have been suspended for two days. The governing council of the college would meet soon to discuss the situation.
The SFI has called for a State-wide strike and boycott of classes on Monday in protest against the killing of Abhimanyu.
