CM N Chandrababu Naidu unveils 12.5 feet bronze statue of SV Ranga Rao

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that a museum in memory of legendary actor SV Ranga Rao would be constructed in Eluru city.

ELURU: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that a museum in memory of legendary actor SV Ranga Rao would be constructed in Eluru city.

Unveiling the 12.5 feet high bronze statue of SV Ranga Rao at Kalasaru Y Junction at Eluru on Tuesday to mark the centenary celebrations of the legendary actor, Naidu said SV Ranga Rao was actor par excellence.

He said no one could match the majesty and elegance of NTR or SVR. “Both of them are legends in their own right. He recalled the films like Patala Bhairavi, Nartanasala, Pandava Vanavasam etc, where NTR and SVR played hero and villain respectively. “They did justice to their roles and no one can showcase the charm they did. Dialogue delivery of SVR cannot be imitated by anyone,” he said.

Later the Chief Minister released SVR souvenir. He also felicitated the sculptor Udayar.  On the occasion, he announced that a township at Eluru would be developed through land pooling.

He said that an outer ring road would also be constructed for Eluru city. This outer ring road comes at Hanuman Junction and with this, the Eluru city would develop in the lines of State capital Amaravati. He announced an autonomous medical college to Eluru.

There is a potentiality to develop tourism spots in the district like Kolleru, Pattiseema, Polavaram and Papikondalu and sea cost. “We will take all measures to develop the district as a tourist hub,” he said.

  • Samarla Venkata Ranga Rao, popular as SVR, one of the finest actors ever in the history of Indian Cinema was born to Samarla Lakshmi and Samarla Koteswara Rao in Nuzvid of Krishna district on July 3, 1918.
  • SVR did his bachelor in science was interested in acting since he was in high school and took acting as his profession after he got the call for a role in the film Varudhini produced by his relative B.V. Ramanandam.  However, budget assistant in Tata company was his first job.
  • He married Leelavathi in 1947 and has three children from the marriage - two daughters and one son.
  • SVR was known for his natural acting style and his dialogue delivery was par excellence. Those in the acting field, who took him as their idol, say there is no one who can portray any role naturally like him.
  • One of the finest fantasy film in Indian Cinema history - Pathala Bhairavi - showcased his acting skills. “Dhairyam Seyara Rakumari Labhistundi’, a dialogue of his film is still remembered and often quoted.
