As local BJP attacks TRS, Union Minister praises government projects

Telangana BJP leaders, who are trying to highlight the alleged corruption in State projects, are in a fix as Ramesh Jigajinagi calls Mission Bhagiratha marvellous.

SANGAREDDY : Even as BJP leaders in the state are attacking the TRS government and accusing it of corruption in the construction of irrigation projects, Union minister of state for drinking water and sanitation Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi has praised the government to the skies for undertaking a project like Mission Bhagiratha to provide piped drinking water to every household in the state.

The Union minister on Tuesday toured Sangareddy and Medak districts to study the Mission Bhagiratha works. At first, he visited Ramachandrapuram in Patancheru Assembly constituency and later the Narsapur constituency. From there he went to Pulkal and Singur villages which are in Andole constituency. At all the places, he closely examined the scheme which provides drinking water to nearby villages. After completing his tour, the BJP leader described the scheme as marvellous.

“In fact, the central government too had tried to implement the scheme across the country earlier to provide potable water to each household. At that time, it was estimated that `5 lakh crore was needed to execute the project. Karnataka government too planned a similar drinking water scheme but shelved the plan as a whopping `46,000 crore was needed for it,” he said. Continuing singing paeans to the “works” done by the state government, the Union minister said, “Telangana government has stood as a role model for other states in the country with its Mission Bhagiratha.

The works are excellent.” But the Union minister’s liberal praise lavished on the TRS government has not gone down with the BJP leaders in the district. “BJP is undertaking a bus yatra in the state and is exposing the failures of the government. During the yatra, none other than our party’s state unit chief K Laxman has been taking the TRS government to task for its failure on all fronts. Laxman has attacking the government, saying that projects like Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha are tainted with corruption. But the Union minister, a BJP leader, has put all of us in a fix by praising the TRS government,” a state BJP leader remarked.
