CHENNAI: The Chennai city police on Tuesday night rescued a businessman who was kidnapped by a gang on Tuesday morning. The police arrested 10
kidnappers.
The kidnappers led by rowdy Vadakarai Sakthi demanded Rs 25 lakh as ransom to release Ganesan, who runs a truck transport business in
Red Hills. They called up Ganesan’s family members and asked them to meet them near
Vandalur with the ransom amount.
As instructed by the police, Ganesan’s family members rushed to Vandalur with a briefcase containing cash. A police team led by additional commissioner of police H M Jayaram monitored them.
After reaching Vandalur, Ganesan’s family called up the kidnappers and waited for them. When the kidnappers arrived there in a car, the police team nabbed five of the 10 kidnappers and rescued the victim. Later, they arrested the rest of the kidnappers from their hiding place in Red Hills.
“The
kidnap case was solved within 12 hours,” said joint commissioner of police north Chennai Prem Anand Sinha.
The arrested kidnappers have been identified as S Sakthivel alias Vadakarai Sakthi, 49, of Red Hills, V Suman, 39, of Thiruporur, K Madan Kumar, 27, of Ennore, M Ganesh, 37, of Naidupet in Andhra Pradesh, A Ashok, 35, of Chromepet, S Rajesh, 21, S Satheeshkumar, 25, and S Siva, 25 (the last three are natives of Red Hills).
The police seized a car and weapons from them.
Sakthi was involved in 13 cases including a murder case three attempt to murder cases.
