KURNOOL:  Chindukuru village in Gadivemula mandal was plunged into gloom after the Supreme Court awarded life sentence to nine people, in a case involving factional murders in 1992. District SP Gopinath Jatti visited the village and interacted with the villagers on Wednesday. The SP said that he beefed up security in the village as faction violence might erupt following the verdict.

Additional police force was deployed in the village. Four persons, including Sivarami Reddy, Ayyapu Reddy, Rami Reddy and Kambagiri Ramudu, died when a bomb was hurled at them at Kandukur village in 1992 as a revenge to a factional murder.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court awarded life imprisonment to nine villagers of Chindukuru, who were accused in the sensational revenge murder case. At the time of incident, Gadivemula police filed a case against 46 persons and Kurnool district court sentenced 34 persons to life imprisonment in 2004. But, all the convicted approached the Supreme Court. The SC convicted nine out of 34 accused after completion of all hearings on Tuesday.

K Sujatha, a family member of the accused, said that their elders had become old and unable to fight. “The verdict has totally destroyed our families,” she said. But, on the other side, a youth who was not interested to reveal his name, belonging to the family of the victims, said that they welcomed the verdict and justice was done finally.
