VIJAYAWADA: Kurnool under the purview of the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL), has become the first district in the country to complete 100 per cent works of the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS).
The works in Adoni, Kurnool, Nandyal, Dhone and Yemmiganur towns were completed before 45 days of the stipulated time.
In continuation of the efforts of AP Power Utilities to provide uninterrupted quality power supply and better consumer services, the Integrated Power Development Scheme was taken up.
Energy Minister K Kala Venkata Rao, along with Principal Secretary (Energy) Ajay Jain, APTransco and APGenco CMD K Vijayanand, appreciated APSPDCL CMD MM Nayak and officials of Kurnool Circle for achieving the rare honour.
Nayak said the Central government had launched IPDS particularly for the urban areas (statutory towns) for strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution network, including provision of solar panels on government buildings and net metering.
Apart from these, the scheme aims at metering of feeders/distribution transformers in urban areas and also IT enablement of distribution sector ultimately strengthening the entire network, the APSPDCL CMD explained.
Recognising the best performance of APSPDCL, the Central government has provided financial support of 60 per cent as a grant under the scheme out of the total project cost of `369.02 crore, while the remaining contribution is from AP Discoms and loans from banks.
“The works under the Integrated Power Development Scheme are almost completed in Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Kadapa, Chittoor and Anantapur districts. Shortly, APSPDCL is expected to become the first Discom to complete the IPDS implementation,” Nayak said.
