Star-studded concert returns to Tauranga

MEDIA RELEASE

Tauranga, 10 July – One of Tauranga’s premier outdoor concert series is set to make a star-studded return to the city’s event calendar this summer.

Organisers of the Stars Under the Stars concert today announce the outdoor concert’s return on Sunday 9 December, with a new location at Mount Maunganui’s Classic Flyers.

And they are promising to pick up where they left off in 2014 with some of the most iconic songs of the ‘70s and ‘80s radiating from the new venue.

Steve Cummins’ “The Neil Diamond Superhits Show” and “Dreams - The Fleetwood Mac Experience”, will both take to the stage for respective two hour shows.

Concert promoter Craig Wilson, of Premium Entertainment, says that after a four-year hiatus the time is right to bring the highly-anticipated outdoor concert event back to the city.

He confirms that a limited 3000 tickets will go on sale in early September via Ticketek.

“While the Stars Under the Stars venue might have changed, due to The Vines at Bethlehem now occupying the original Mills Reef venue, we believe we have the right ingredients to build on the concert’s past successes,” he explains.

“We have had some great line-ups previously and this year will be no different.

“Everyone knows the words to classics such as Sweet Caroline, Cherry Cherry and Go Your Own Way, so I’m expecting a great atmosphere and crowd.”

Classic Flyers NZ sales manager Amy Scott is very excited for the venue to host such an iconic Tauranga event.

“To help bring Stars Under The Stars back to the city is simply fantastic.

“The Bay of Plenty is the place to be over summer, so we are expecting a great crowd of young and old.”

Since small beginnings at its inaugural show in 2003, Craig has grown the Stars Under The Stars brand to two-night, sell-out events attracting over 6000 people.

Previous years have featured a mix of original artists (including CCR, The Hollies, Glenn Shorrock, Golden Kiwis, The Ladykillers), and tribute acts Cher, Rod Stewart, Elton John and others.

Craig says it is only fitting to have The Neil Diamond Superhits Show returning to headline the 2018 show after selling 5000 tickets in just nine days back in 2007.

“Steve is a multi-award-winning entertainer and his show has toured extensively throughout Australasia since 1993.

“To be touring the world for its 25-year anniversary this year is testament to him mastering the feel of Neil’s music and performing a brilliant tribute.”

Tickets are expected to go on sale early September and, for the first two days of sales, they will only be available over the counter at Baycourt Ticketek.

The tickets will then be available online and over the phone. Classic Flyers will also offer hospitality packages for the concert.

The 2018 Stars Under The Stars at Classic Flyers is on Sunday 9 December from 6pm-10pm, with gates opening from 4pm.
