Emily Thornberry, who was standing in for Jeremy Corbyn, was in full flow as she delivered a devastating verdict on the state of the government's negotiations.

The Speaker John Bercow interrupted Ms Thornberry calling for the government to respond - but the shadow foreign secretary glared at him from the despatch box.

It was an extraordinary move from the speaker who never stops Jeremy Corbyn - despite some long-winded contributions from the Leader of the Opposition in the weekly exchange.

It was also an odd move considering Mr Bercow has a track record of standing up for Ms Thornberry when she is being shouted down in the chamber.

But he also interrupted the Green Party leader Caroline Lucas before she had finished asking her question.
