Fishermen of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu clash in Nellore district

A scuffle broke out between fishermen of AP and Tamil Nadu at Chennayapalem village in Kavali mandal on Friday.

NELLORE: A scuffle broke out between fishermen of AP and Tamil Nadu at Chennayapalem village in Kavali mandal on Friday. Four fishermen of the village received minor injuries in the clash between the two groups.

According to information reaching here, five boats from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu entered the AP coast close to Chennayapalem for fishing violating local area fishing regulations. Fishermen of the village detained the boats and personnel as their nets were damaged due to unauthorised entry of Tamil Nadu boats.

Local fishermen argued with their Tamil Nadu counterparts and a scuffle ensued between the two groups. The injured fishermen were shifted to Kavali area hospital. Tamil Nadu fishermen in three boats managed to escape, while 19 fishermen of the remaining two boats were detained at the cyclone shelter near the village.

Following the incident, some elders from fishermen community of Tamil Nadu came to Chennayapalem to resolve the issue by holding talks with local fishermen community and get the detained fishermen released.
