MUMBAI: Mild earthquake tremors were felt in Kalyan and Dombivli on Friday night. Officials from the
India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, confirmed that an earthquake of minor magnitude-2.8 on the Richter scale-did occur in
Maharashtra with its epicentre in
Raigad district.
Many residents from Kalyan-Dombivli and
Ulhasnagar reported experiencing light tremors between 9.30pm and 9.40pm. S N Dubey a resident from Gandhari area in Kalyan (W), said, "I was in the toilet when I felt the tremors.
I rushed out and took my family members outside the building."
Umesh Thakur, a ticket checker who lives in Shree Complex in Kalyan, said many people rushed out of their homes in panic. Social media too was flooded with messages alerting people about the mild earthquake.
