The baby was found abandoned at an empty site
BENGALURU: Police are yet to find out how a newborn girl, who was stolen from Sri Narasimha Raja District Hospital, Kolar, in the early hours of July 11, was found abandoned 80km away in KHB Surya Nagar, off Hosur Road, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, the same day.
Police sources said the baby was stolen from the hospital around 3.10am and was found abandoned in the middle of an empty site at KHB Surya Nagar around 8pm.
Narayanaswamy, a resident of Vammasandra village in Mulabagal, Kolar, had filed a complaint about his newborn daughter going missing from the hospital.
A local, Srinivasa Reddy, who heard the baby’s cries, rescued the child and brought her to the jurisdictional Attibele police station around 11pm.
“We have registered a case about the incident and shifted the baby to government run Bala Mandira near Nimhans Hospital,” police said. Attibele police, who learnt that a newborn girl was stolen from the Kolar hospital, shared the details on Friday, following which Kolar police rushed to Bengaluru with parents of the baby.
“The parents identified the baby as theirs. Blood samples of the mother and the child revealed that both have O+ group. But there are other procedures to be completed before handling over the baby to the parents. It may take three more days,” said a Kolar Rural police officer.
Rohini Katoch-Sepat, Kolar superintendent of police, said the baby will remains at the Bala Mandir till they complete all the procedures. “We are concentrating on finding the culprits who stole the baby,” she said.
According to Kolar police, Narayanaswamy’s wife Venu Kumari was admitted to hospital for delivery on July 9. She gave birth to a baby girl around 8.30am on July 10 and doctors advised her to stay for a day at the hospital.
