Family receives Hyderabad techie’s body, flies him home in coffin
KOLKATA: The body of the 23-year-old cyber security analyst who died on Sunday after being hit by a circular railway train while he was taking a photograph at Judges’ Ghat was flown home to Kovvur near Hyderabad in an evening flight. Kantamani Sri Vayu Putra, who was in Kolkata with three colleagues to offer a 10-day crash course at a private institute in Sodepur, was on a day trip in the city when the accident happened around noon.
He succumbed to internal injuries after being stuck under the cowcatcher of the train for around 45 minutes.
“He was a jovial person and loved taking photographs. He was so excited to see the waterfront as we got out of the cab near Judges Ghat on Sunday that he started running without noticing the train,” said Shivaram, one of his colleagues.
Late on Sunday, Vayu’s brother Narsimha and a cousin’s husband flew to Kolkata from Hyderabad. They were handed over Vayu’s body around 3pm from the SSKM Hospital morgue after the post-mortem.
The family flew back with the body in a coffin by an 8.40pm flight.
“The family members have been distraught after the accident. His younger brother, who received his body at the hospital, was in shock for the entire period. Both his parents fell ill after hearing the news of his death,” said Surojit Ghosh, the business partner of Vayu Putra’s father’s friend, who had been handling the formalities at the hospital and dealing with the police probe here.
Family sources said Vayu Putra had completed his MTech in cyber security and had been working with a private software development company in Vijayawada for a year.
“He was extremely intelligent and wanted to open his own startup dealing with cyber security. He was the brightest among all of us and I still can’t believe he is no more,” said Shivaram.
