VIJAYAWADA: Taking strong exception to the invitation extended to Kurnool MP Butta Renuka to the all-party meeting held on the eve of the monsoon session of Parliament on Tuesday, YSRC Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Sai Reddy questioned how could she be invited in her capacity as deputy leader of the YSRC when she defected to the TDP and a petition seeking her disqualification has been pending before the Speaker.

Reddy, speaking to reporters in New Delhi, found fault with the ruling BJP for the fiasco and wondered how could such an invitation be sent without confirmation from the YSRC.

The YSRC leader, citing the incident, alleged that it showed that the BJP and TDP were very much together. On what transpired at the meeting, Reddy said he had demanded that the Centre accord special category status to the State, but the Prime Minister did not respond.

He said the TDP was lowering the image of the Telugus by sending leaders like CM Ramesh, a liquor baron, to the Rajya Sabha.  Targeting Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, he said the former knows neither English nor Hindi while the latter can’t even speak Telugu.

Hitting back, TDP MP Rammohan Naidu accused the YSRC of trying to mislead the people at a time when the TDP was fighting to put pressure on the Centre to secure the State’s rights. Condemning the “cheap remarks” of Reddy, he said it was strange that the man, who was running around the Prime Minister in Parliament to get the cases against him dropped, was talking about the interests of the State.
