RAJKOT: Once again it has been proved that a dog is a man’s best friend. A shepherd in Ambardi village of Savarkundla in Amreli was saved by his dog after he was attacked by three lions on Saturday.
Bhavesh Hamir Bharwad (25), suffered minor injuries on his back and arm when one of the lions hit him with its paw as he tried to drive them away. He was treated for the injury at a government hospital in Savarkundla.
The incident took place when Bharwad was grazing his sheep and goats on the outskirts of the Ambardi village. The lions came from nowhere and attacked the sheep and killed three of them.
As Bharwad tried to save his herd, one of the lions attacked him. Before the lions could move closer, Bharwad’s dog started barking. According to villagers, when they heard the dog’s constant barking they rushed there. Seeing humans in large numbers the lions fled the spot.
Villagers informed the forest department and are keeping watch for the lions as they can strike again. tnn
