The White Sidewalls, a Twin Cities rock and doo-wop band, will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 26, on the Douglas County Courthouse lawn in Alexandria.
Founded in 1972, it draws its playlist from the decade of what it considers the "golden era" of rock 'n' roll, rockabilly and doo-wop music, 1954-64, including the music of Elvis Presley, Frankie Ford, The Silhouettes, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys and The Big Bopper.
Band members are Hound Dog, Swanee, Rocky Beaumont, Gino Gambucci and Bobby Maestro.
Thursday's concert is the 10th in a series of weekly performances scheduled throughout the summer. Organized by The Red Willow Arts Coalition, the concerts are sponsored by Anderson Funeral Home and Elden's Fresh Foods, as well as nightly sponsors. Thursday's music is sponsored by Glenwood State Bank and Martinson Insurance.
Red Willow encourages concert-goers to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Proceeds from popcorn sales will support a new playground for Miltona Science Magnet School.
