BENGALURU:Chamarajanagar district will get as many as 94 new projects with a total investment of ` 162 crore, which will help increase employment opportunities for the youth of the district. These projects were recently cleared by the single window clearance committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner of the district. On Monday, Large and Medium Industries Minister K J George said the government would provide all assistance to Sutlej Textiles and Industries Ltd, which is establishing a unit in the industrial estate being set up in Badanaguppe and Kallambahalli villages in the district.

According to a statement from his office, the unit will be set up with an investment of `786 crore and will be spread across 46 acres out of the total 1,460 acres of the industrial estate. “Sutlej Textiles will manufacture sportswear and the company is expected to provide employment to 1,800 persons,” George said, adding that Gundlupet and Yellandur taluks in the district had been classified as the most backward zone, while Chamarajanagar and Kollegal taluks were classified as very backward taluks.

Under Karnataka’s industrial policy, companies looking to set up shop in backward regions are entitled to a subsidy of 20 to 25%, while entrepreneurs belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, women, backward classes, minorities, physically-challenged people and ex-servicemen will be eligible for an additional 5% subsidy. In addition, exemption from Stamps and Registration charges, refund of land conversion fee and 5% special rebate for solid waste management and processing will also be provided.
