GUNTUR: For better enforcement of law and order in the district, Guntur police have formed special teams. While the one constituted by the rural police is known as Guntur special force (GSF), the one formed for the urban region is a special task force (STF).

The newly-formed team for the rural region has 400 personnel who will not only check drunk driving cases, but also help in crowd control management in the 58 police stations in rural district limits.

Meanwhile, the STF, a team of 106 policemen, will work to put an end to cases such as child abuse, attacks on women, eve teasing in schools and colleges and human trafficking in the 16 police stations under the Guntur Urban limits. These policemen are specially trained in conducting foot patrolling in problematic areas and regulating traffic during jams.

Guntur Rural police have identified eight base camps for the GSF. Bapatla, Vinukonda, Narasaraopet, Macherla, Tulluru and Tenali are among the areas selected for the purpose. The 400 personnel have been divided into 18 teams who will be deployed in these eight camps as per the requirement.

While the teams will be stationed in these base camps for 10 days in a month, they will be put up at the headquarters for the remaining days. Commenting on the development, Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao asked the women and young girls to cooperate with the teams if any untoward incident occurs.
