Indian Institute of Information Technology at Kottayam gets Atal Incubation Centre

KOZHIKODE: Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Kottayam, has got a shot in the arm with the Union Government recently sanctioning an incubation centre for the institution with a financial assistance of Rs 5 crore.

The Atal Incubation Centre (AIC) of IIIT Kottayam has been set up to address the existing problems of entrepreneurs by providing them sufficient input in terms of knowledge, guidance, mentoring, training, and demonstrations.

Currently functioning from a transit campus in the state capital under the mentorship of Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER), the institution is all set to move to its 53-acre permanent campus provided by the state government at Pala in Kottayam.

IIIT Kottayam was set up by the Union Government to develop new knowledge in IT and provide manpower of global standards to the IT industry. According to its registrar M Radhakrishnan, as many as 130 students have been enrolled in various programmes such as BTech Computer Science, Integrated BTech, MS and PhD in the institution.

Admissions to undergraduate courses are on the basis of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2018 allotment process. All candidates who have appeared in JEE (Main) 2018 are eligible to register for admission.

“A special round of seat allocation under JoSAA is currently under way in the institution. In the first round of allotment, 61 out of the 72 eligible candidates had secured admission, Radhakrishnan added.

According to officials, a diversified course structure with specialisation requirements prescribed by the industry, MoUs with leading universities worldwide and availability of a top-class incubation centre are features that draw students to the premier institution.
