Get birth, death certificates since 1871 online, says Nellore Municipal Corporation

NELLORE: Authorities of Nellore Municipal Corporation have been digitising the records of birth and death certificates from the year 1871. The records are being scanned and stored in hard disks as part of digitisation.

As many as 1,200 registers containing more than seven lakh entries are being digitally saved to the hard disks under the supervision of health officer of the civic body.

Nellore was established as municipality in 1884 and was constituted as Nellore Municipal Corporation in 2004. There are two zones and 54 divisions in the Nellore Municipal Corporation limits. Normally, authorities of the civic body would store the details of birth and death in registers from 1871.

As many as 200 government and private hospitals fall under Nellore Municipal Corporation limits. Parents of newborns and the kin of the deceased, who died in hospitals and also in houses, would get birth and death certificates from the civic body.

People have to apply for birth or death certificates in the respective Mee Seva Centres with proper documents. The civic body receives 100 to 150 applications for birth certificates and 30 to 40 for death certificates.

Around 50 applications come for corrections in birth certificates on a daily basis. Birth and Death Record Assistants working in hospitals send the details to corporation office.
