Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Eatala Rajender performed ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Telangana State’s second highest monumental flag post on the sprawling Old High School premises in the town on Sunday.
The flag post measuring 150 foot would come up at a cost of ₹ 76 lakh at the proposed park on the Old High School premises. The national flag to be hoisted on the flag post would not be lowered even at sunset as it would be illuminated.
Under the National Flag code, oversized national flag that is hoisted on an over 100-foot pole is allowed to fly day and night when it is illuminated through the night.
The Minister also laid foundation stone for the construction of new building for Old High School and Urdu Medium School on the same premises at a cost of ₹ 2.6 crore each.
He also participated in the plantation of saplings at Markfed premises as part of Haritha haaram programme. Later, he participated in the inauguration of Zilla Parishad Quarters MCK Park constructed a cost of ₹ 70 lakh along with legislator Gangula Kamalakar, Mayor S. Ravinder Singh, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Tula Uma, Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad, Commissioner of Police V. B. Kamalasan Reddy, Municipal Commissioner K. Shashanka and others. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the construction of monumental flag post at the park was a matter of pride for the people of town. The park is being developed at a cost of ₹ 7 crore, he added. Flaying the opposition parties for their opposition to the construction of the park, he said that the TRS government was taking up programmes only for the benefit of society and not individuals.
He ridiculed that the opposition claims that the government was selling away the Old High School land to the private people. He said that the opposition parties would shut their mouths only after completion of the state-of-the-art modern park.
