The arrested accused was identified as Krishnadev Paswan
PATNA: Police in Madhubani district arrested one accused on Saturday morning in connection with an alleged gangrape incident whose video had gone viral in the area recently.
Jhanjharpur SDPO Yogendra Kumar said that the incident actually took place on July 20, but the victim approached police on Friday only after the accused youths had circulated the video of the rape incident on social media platforms.

Kumar said the arrested accused was identified as Krishnadev Paswan (28), who was arrested from village Raiyyam under Bhairavshtan police station area in the district where the incident took place.
“The victim is 15 year old girl, also is a native of Raiyyam,” the SDPO said, adding, she was raped by Krishnadev and Ajit Paswan alias Bilaiyya (21).
He said that when asked, the victim and her family members told police that after the incident took place, they kept silent due to fear and social stigma but few villagers convinced them to approach police after the accused youth circulated the video.
“The victim’s mother had went to pick up firewood from the village outskirts on the fateful day. When she delayed in returning, the victim also left home to search her mother. It was then that the two accused gangraped her in a secluded place,” the SDPO said.

He said that Krishadev’s cellphone was seized and victim’s cellphone number was found saved in its contact list.
“It is matter of investigation if the youth was stalking the victim from earlier or was in talking terms,” SDPO Kumar said adding that the another accused had fled from the village after making the video of the incident viral.
Kumar said that it was Ajit, who had recorded the video on his cellphone and raids were on to nab him.
“Police have also identified the people who had circulated the video and they would be arrested too,” Kumar said adding the FIR was lodged under Information-Technology (IT) Act and amended laws of Indian Penal Code (IPC) in which rape with girl above 12 year age and below 16 year attracts 20 years of imprisonment.
The SDPO also said villagers were given message to inform police immediately in case any such video comes to light as well as if they come to know about blackmailing of any girl or woman.
