Bengal signboard in Balasore an eyesore

Balasore Collector Ramesh Kumar Rout said the matter is being probed and would be brought to the notice of West Bengal Government.

BARIPADA: Utkal Sammilani, a socio-cultural organisation, has demanded immediate removal of a signboard which was illegally erected by the Irrigation and Waterways department of the West Bengal Government near Udaypur beach in Balasore district. The Sammilani’s president Aditya Kumar Patra along with some block representatives recently visited the site at Udaypur and expressed their discontentment over the district administration and State Government’s lack of initiative to take up the matter with the West Bengal Government. Patra said the Bengal Government has been active in the border areas of the district.

“If the Odisha Government does not wake up to the issue, its Bengal counterpart will soon exercise its power on people residing in border areas of Balasore district,” he added. Patra said the State Government should take steps to remove the signboard at Udaypur and bring it to the notice of the Bengal Government. He added that if the Government fails to take any step, the representatives of the organisation will remove the signboard on August 16.

Balasore Collector Ramesh Kumar Rout said the matter is being probed and would be brought to the notice of West Bengal Government. Recently, the Collector and SP B Jugal Kishore Kumar along with other officials had visited the spot.
