Hyderabad: Former Nizamabad mayor booked under Nirbhaya Act
HYDERABAD: The Nizamabad city police on Friday booked a case under Nirbhaya Act against former Nizamabad mayor Dharmapuri Sanjay following a complaint by a group of students of Sankari Nursing College that he had harassed them sexually. Sanjay is the son of former minister and senior TRS leader D Srinivas.
Sanjay, however, denied the allegations. He said he was framed under false charges to damage his political career and reputation.
The IV Town police moved fast and registered cases against Sanjay under Sections 354, 354A, and 342 of IPC and provisions of Nirbhaya Act after the alleged victims met Nizamabad police commissioner and lodged a formal complaint.
A team of policemen went to Sanjay’s house to arrest him. However, they could not find him at the residence. A special team has been formed to arrest him.
On Thursday 11 students of the nursing college along with their parents and relatives and Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) leader Sandhya met home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy in Hyderabad and alleged that Sanjay had been sexually harassing the girls.
