BHAGALPUR: The district
police on Tuesday detected embezzlement of government funds by the children shelter
home in the town run by NGO Rupam Pragati Samaj Samiti. The
Bhagalpur police are investigating into a case of physical abuse of the shelter home residents (boys).
During the investigation, the police team detected embezzlement of funds allotted by the state government to the shelter home during 2016-17 and 2017-18 under various heads like salary payments to staff, building rent, food expenses and bills for medical check-up of the inmates.
Accounts officer of the district children protection unit is likely to probe the fraud, DSP (headquarters)Ramesh Kumar said.
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), in its social audit report on 110 government shelter homes in the state, had indicated physical abuse of the residents by former shelter home superintendent Pradip Kumar Sharma, who was arrested on Sunday.
