Not a single UP city among top 30, Rae Bareli 49th in list

LUCKNOW: Not a single city from UP is among top 30 in a first of its kind survey - 'Ease of Living Index 2018'- conducted by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs that has ranked 111 cities of India based on the ease of living of its residents. While there are 14 cities from UP making the cut, PM's constituency Varanasi is top-ranked from the state at 33rd place rank while Sonia Gandhi's Rae Bareli has been ranked 49th.

The survey includes all the selected Smart Cities, capital cities and those with population over one million. UP's capital and Union home minister Rajnath Singh's constituency Lucknow has much worse and finished at at 73rd rank. Only four UP cities could find a place in top 50 - Varanasi at 33, Jhansi at 34, Ghaziabad at 46 and Rae Bareli at 49 position. Among other cities, Agra is 55th, Kanpur 75th, Bareilly 81st, Aligarh at 86th, Moradabad at 89th, Allahabad at 96th, and Meerut, Saharanpur and Rampur at 101st, 103rd and 111th respectively. The cities have been marked on various parameters that determine the comfort of living in urban setup
Survey to help gauge scheme implementation
The cities have been marked on various parameters that determine the comfort of living in urban setup like culture, education, health, safety, economy, affordable housing, land use planning, public open spaces, assured water supply, waste management, transportation and mobility, power supply etc. The survey has also been done to gauge the implementation of other Central development projects like Smart City Mission, Swachch Bharat Mission, AMRUT etc in various cities. The cities have been marked on a scale of 100. While the top scorer Pune has got 58.11marks, Varanasi has received 39.86 marks. The national average of scores of 111 cities is 35.64 marks.
As a big disappointment, 10 out of 14 UP cities have scored much below the national average. Lucknow is at 31.76, Kanpur is at 31.65, Allahabad at 25.50, Saharanpur at 22.71 and worst performer in the country, Rampur has scored just 17.
