Chelsea and Arsenal to fight out stalemate: Premier League odds and predictions plus Manchester United to sneak it at Brighton and a 20/1 double

  • Chelsea host Arsenal in the Premier League's biggest game this weekend
  • With both desperate to avoid defeat, a scoring draw at 19/5 looks good
  • Elsewhere Tottenham look set for winning Wembley return against Fulham
  • But Huddersfield are a whopping 40/1 to win at champions Manchester City
  • Chelsea vs Arsenal, LIVE score - London derby updates at Stamford Bridge

The sensible approach would be to keep an eye on things and your money in your pocket to see how the early-season matches pan out. But where's the fun in that? Here's our game-by-game guide to the second round of fixtures in the Premier League with Chelsea v Arsenal the pick of the bunch on Saturday night.

Cardiff v Newcastle

For the second week in a row Newcastle are in the Saturday lunchtime slot and they'll be hoping for a better outcome than their season opener. The Magpies probably deserved something for their efforts in the narrow defeat by Tottenham while Cardiff were given a quick reminder of the step up in class to the Premier League by Bournemouth. But Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock will have noticed Newcastle's struggles when dealing with crosses and his side are sure to open their goal account for the season. A clean sheet is less likely so 1-1 is the pick here at 11/2 (several firms).

Everton v Southampton

Goodison should be rocking for this one with Marco Silva and his summer signings making their home bow in the Premier League. The hosts are a shade under evens with most bookies but go with the man in form for a better return. Richarlison scored from his two shots on target against Wolves last week, pouncing from close range before sealing his debut double with a smart run and finish. The Brazilian in the score-win double with Sky Bet is 11/2.

Leicester v Wolves

You've got to feel a bit sorry for Claude Puel - one game in and he's the new name at the head of the betting for the sack race, replacing Jose Mourinho, the man who beat him last Friday night. Former Everton boss Roberto Martinez and Thierry Henry are in the frame to take over and Puel, in his pre-match press conference, insisted anybody taking his place would inherit a 'very good squad'. Wolves have one of them too and scored a couple of crackers at home to Everton last week, but if they are to live up to the hype, and there's been a fair bit of it, this is the type of match they have to take something from. Uncertainty over Puel may just boost their chances. Wolves are 3/1 (Betfred) for the points, 9/2 (several firms) to win by a one-goal margin or 7/1 (bet365) to win with both team scoring.

Tottenham v Fulham

Tottenham are hardly sitting outside a station with a cardboard sign and a plastic cup for coins but having nowhere to go for their home clash with Man City at the end of October is a big enough problem to be talked about during the build-up to the Fulham game this weekend. But on the plus side, it takes the focus away from Harry Kane and that famous August drought of his. It's now 14 games, 988 minutes and 46 shots after last week's win at Newcastle. Yet still he's only 4/9 to score at any time while Spurs are no better than 3/10 (Sky Bet) at Wembley. You can get 6/5 they win without conceding.

West Ham v Bournemouth

The only way is up for West Ham as they sit rooted to the foot of the table after a four-goal thumping at Liverpool - 90 minutes that brought them back down with a bump following a confidence-boosting summer recruitment drive. A home tie with Bournemouth isn't a bad one to get after a trip to Anfield but the visitors will be buoyed by their opening-day result - a win over Cardiff, although it should have been easier than it was. The Hammers could take a bit of time to click and a draw looks the bet here. Any share of the points with both teams scoring is available at 18/5 (Bet Victor).

Chelsea v Arsenal

It's far too early - in the season and in the new regimes of these two - to pile in to either side with confidence but the Saturday teatime treat is definitely worth having a flutter on. Arsenal are the one big-six outfit who didn't kick off the campaign with a win but it was Manchester City who provided the opposition. The same Manchester City who also swatted Chelsea aside the week before in the Community Shield. Maurizio Sarri will be desperate to avoid defeat by derby rivals in his first home match while Unai Emery will be at similar pains to not start his campaign with two straight losses. So avoiding defeat becomes more important than winning and we'll be on the stalemate. Any draw with both teams scoring is 19/5 with Bet Victor and 2-2 is 14/1 with bet365.

Burnley v Watford

Watford looked good last weekend but there aren't many teams around who would have failed to impress against a Brighton side that failed to register a single shot on target. Burnley should be more tuned up, this being their sixth game of the season as they try to reach the group stage of the Europa League, and while draw backers will be aware that the previous five have been all square at 90 minutes, they get the nod at home. They're 29/20 (Marathon) for the victory and 11/2 to win 1-0.

Man City v Huddersfield

Considering some of the cricket scores City ran up last season it might come as a shock to be reminded that their games against Huddersfield ended in a 0-0 draw (once the league was wrapped up) and a 2-1 victory after they fell behind at the John Smith's Stadium. They've lost Kevin De Bruyne to injury but are hardly short of world-class deputies and there's plenty of reasons why the visitors, humbled at home by Chelsea last week, are 40/1. As for the hosts, 1/10 is as good as it gets but they are 2/1 to win with over 4.5 total goals in the match while Sergio Aguero is just under 2/1 with several bookies to score two or more.

Brighton v Man United

Paul Pogba claims he can't say what he wants about his relationship with Jose Mourinho or he would be hit in the pocket but he should've been fined for that ridiculous run-up for his penalty last week - goal or no goal - that sent United on their way to victory over Leicester. They didn't build on his opener until much, much later but maybe baby steps is the way to go at this stage of the season. After all, it's a marathon, not a sprint. They can get past Brighton for two wins on the spin but a narrow one could be the best bet again. They're 12/5 (several firms) to win by a one-goal margin.

Crystal Palace v Liverpool

Crystal Palace is a happy camp after a successful summer saw them spend wisely while keeping their stars but if it's a fight over who had the best window then big-spending Liverpool win at a canter. And if they're serious about mounting a challenge to Man City, that's what they need to do here. They cruised past West Ham and while Palace will offer a stiffer test, Liverpool should be too good. They won both games by the odd goal last term and seven of the last eight matches between these two teams have gone the way of the visitors. Back Liverpool to make it eight from nine. They're 9/5 to win with both teams scoring and 7/2 to win by a couple.
