Deoria SP ousted for laxity in shelter home case

LUCKNOW: More than 10 days after the Deoria shelter home case came to light, the UP government shifted the district police chief and deputy inspector general of police Basti range on Wednesday evening.
Deoria SP Rohan P Kanay has been attached to the DGP’s office and not been given any posting. Earlier this week, Allahabad high court had asked the state government to probe the role of police in Deoria case.
Mahoba superintendent of police N Kolanchi has been sent to Deoria as police chief.
DIG (Basti range) Rakesh Shankar who served as SP Deoria from September 2017 to March 2018 has also been transferred and attached to the DGP headquarters in Lucknow for laxity. Departmental enquiry has been ordered against both the officials.
Further, CO, Sadar, Dayaram Singh has also been removed and departmental inquiry initiated against him.
The investigating officer and inspector where the district probation officer lodged first FIR on July 31 against the illegal shelter home have also been suspended and departmental inquiry been started against them.
The government has also asked the DGP office about police inspectors who took recovered children to the particular illegal shelter home against the orders of the district magistrate after its licence was cancelled. The responsibility of those police personnel would be fixed and then action would be initiated against them.
