3 cops hurt in mob attack in Bhojpur
ARA: The Bhojpur police had to face violent mobs in two separate incidents late Friday evening.
Sahar SHO Sanjay Kumar received bullet injury in his hand while he was trying to pacify an angry mob in Bajeriya village under his jurisdiction. The mob was protesting against the murder of one Lal Babu Singh, son of village chowkidar Bhukhan Singh.
According to reports, Lal Babu was going on his bike from Bajeriya to Baruhi Bazaar when he was shot.
The irate mob damaged a police jeep and attacked the house of the alleged killer, who is a co-villager of the victim.
During the protests, an unidentified man fired a shot which hit the SHO. He was being treated at a private hospital at Ara.
Bhojpur SP Awakash Kumar along with a contingent of police force was camping in the village till Saturday morning to bring the tense situation under control. Police have arrested 15 people in this connection.
In the second incident, a police team was on Friday night attacked by residents of Mahadalit Basti at Chandwa Housing Colony under the Nawada police station area at Ara.
Nawada SHO Subodh Kumar told this reporter SI Maninder Kumar and a police constable were injured in the mob attack. The windowpane of a police jeep was also broken.
The police team had gone to conduct a raid following a tip-off about consumption of illicit liquor. The SHO said ten people were arrested, and medical tests confirmed that nine of them had consumed alcohol.
An FIR has been lodged against 15 named and 150-odd unnamed accused in this connection.
