Paddy plantation 92% in Saran: DM
CHHAPRA: Rainfall deficit notwithstanding, paddy saplings have been transplanted over 92% of the targeted farmlands with the help of tube-wells and canal water in Saran district.
Saran DM Subrat Kumar Sen said on Thursday evening that paddy transplantation was done in 79,550 hectares of land as against the target of 86,000 hectares in the district.
Altogether 7,667 farmers of the district are registered under the Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme and directives have been issued to the officials concerned to register 25,000 more farmers under this scheme by the end of this month, Sen said.

The DM has directed the officials concerned to withhold the salary of the agriculture coordinators who have submitted less number of applications for diesel subsidy. He has also issued instructions to serve a show-cause notice to an executive engineer of the minor irrigation department for submitting incorrect information about the functioning of tube-wells.
The DM has also asked the engineers concerned to prevent erosion due to the Gandak near Sarounja Bhagwanpur under Panapur block. “The administration has received reports about the erosion... Preventive measures have been initiated,” Sen said and added the water level in the district’s other rivers, except the Saryu, was stable.
