LUCKNOW: A history-sheeter and his aide were allegedly lynched when they had reportedly gone to extort money from a gram pradhan in Sultanpur district on Sunday morning. Police registered cross-FIRs in the case naming gram pradhan Jai Prakash of Semarghat village and his accomplices in one and history-sheeter Jitendra Pratap alias Raja Babu in the other.
According to the police, Jitendra Pratap, along with his aide Dhananjay Yadav and four others, reached the house of gram pradhan Jai Prakash in Semarghat village on Sunday morning to extort Rs 2 lakh from him.
However, the pradhan’s mother Rama Devi opened the door and asked them the reason for dropping in so early in the morning. This snowballed into a verbal spat and Babu allegedly attacked her with a stick. As she slumped, the other members of the family raised an alarm, at which Babu and his aides opened fire in the air. Hearing the deafening sound of gunshots, several villagers reached the scene and surrounded them.
As the six extortionists tried to flee, villagers chased them assaulted them brutally with sticks. In the meantime, other villagers also informed the police.
On the information, a police team reached the place and rushed Babu, Yadav and their other aides to a government hospital where Babu was declared brought dead while Yadav succumbed to injuries in the evening. The mob fled on coming to know about the arrival of police.
SP (Sultanpur) Anurag Vats said Babu was a criminal and his younger brother Munna Singh was also in jail . The brother duo are hardened criminals and demand extortion from businessmen, he added. Vats said Babu was alive when the police rescued him from the mob. “He was declared brought dead after the doctors examined him,” he said, adding that Raja had several cases registered in his name at different police stations in Sultanpur.
Vats further added that cross-FIRs had been lodged in the case — one against the gram pradhan and unidentified villagers while the other against the history-sheeter and his unidentified men.
