UP: Clash in Hathras leaves a dozen injured
AGRA: Around a dozen people including some policemen and employees of a construction company, involved in building the dedicated freight corridor at Delhi-Howrah rail route, were injured, following a clash with the residents of Mehrara village in Hathras on Monday.
The clash occurred after the police tried to remove villagers, who were protesting against the project.
According to police, residents of Mehrara village in Sehpau area were demanding assurance of an under-pass being constructed at the spot before commencing the corridor work.

The residents claimed that without the underpass, locals would have to face hurdles in commuting. The villagers staged the protest and when the police tried to remove them, they started pelting stones, resulting in injuries to three policemen.
To disperse the crowd, the police resorted to lathi-charge and used tear gas.
ASP, Hathras, Sidhartha Verma, said that the situation is under control and “moderate” force had to be used to disperse the crowd as the situation could have turned volatile. He said police force has been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.
He said, two FIRs will be registered against the residents of Mehrara village, one each from the company’s project manager and the other from the police. So far, eight people have been arrested.

Villagers alleged that police opened fire and also beat them, when they were protesting peacefully.
Manish Kumar, Chief Project officer of the construction company, Tata-Aldesa company, said that four employees of the company were injured during a clash. He said, he will lodge a complaint against the local residents.
Kumar said that the corridor project in Hathras was started just a few days back. He said the residents of this village have been protesting since then. He said, as per the project, a level crossing will be constructed there, but the residents are not ready to accept it.
