NEW DELHI: A senior official of an industry association had a harrowing experience when three men accosted him and his family at gunpoint in east Delhi just after midnight on Saturday and then drove away with his gold chain and mobile phone.
Girish Ahuja, senior assistant director of FICCI, was driving towards Caventer Market in Vivek Vihar with his brother, Hitesh, their wives and an aunt. They told the cops that they stopped at an ice-cream vendor and Girish stepped out of the Maruti Ciaz car to make the payment.
At this point, a motorcycle stopped behind their vehicle.
“We were inside the car and saw two men walking from the motorbike towards my brother,” said Hitesh. “One of them stood in front of my brother and pushed a pistol into his back.” The assailants threatened Girish that they would shoot everyone dead if they tried anything desperate.
One of the men held a gun on Girish, another stood by ready to help his associate, while the third remained on the motorcycle, keeping an eye on the car occupants, also with a gun pointed at them.
Sensing the danger faced by his brother, Hitesh requested the men not to shoot anyone and told them to take whatever they wanted. “I kept on requesting them not to shoot anyone but to stay calm. The men took my brother’s gold chain, a pendant and his mobile phone and went towards Kasturba Nagar,” Hitesh said.
As the motorcycle sped away, the family called the police control room. They were later taken to Anand Vihar police station, where a case was registered under Section 392 of the Indian Penal Code for robbery.

Police have started investigations and are scanning CCTV footage to see if the three men can be identified. The complainant told the cops that all the three men appeared to be in their early 20s and were riding a black motorcycle. Police have shared the available information with the local informers. The investigators are also trying to track the phone stolen from Girish and teams have been formed to track the robbers.
