GAYA: The two-member probe committee looking into the charges of nepotism and financial imprudence, including alleged purchase of answer books at a higher price, against MU VC Prof Qamar Ahsan began its inquiry on Tuesday.
Committee members retired IAS official S P Sinha and former Aryabhatt Knowledge University VC S N Guha reached the varsity headquarters at Bodh Gaya and interacted with senior university officials.

According to sources, they examined documents concerning the purchases made by the university through GeM, a government e-marketplace. The committee has also sought evidence from Aurangabad MP Sushil Singh, who levelled the charges against the VC on October 22 last year.
According to a communication received by the MU HQ from probe panel member Sinha, the formal inquiry will be held at the Circuit House at Gaya on August 24. The university officials have been asked to inform the MP and the VC about the itinerary of the inquiry committee members.
As per the tentative schedule, the committee will first hear the MP. The MP, in his two-page complaint to the the governor-cum-chancellor, has also referred to the allegation that several colleges were disaffiliated in an arbitrary manner for extraneous reasons. The charges have been denied by the VC.
The VC’s reply was found unsatisfactory, said a notification issued by Vivek Kumar Singh, principal secretary to the governor, through which the two-member probe committee was constituted on August 7.
After examining the documents produced by the MP, the inquiry committee members will give time to ABVP functionaries and others who have also petitioned the Raj Bhavan against the VC.
The Raj Bhavan notification dated August 7 gave 15 days’ time to the committee to inquire into the allegations and submit its report. The deadline ends on Wednesday.
