MUMBAI: Rainfall over the past 10 days has wiped out deficit in most districts of the state. From nine such districts a few days ago, rainfall is now deficient only Nandurbar and Sangli, the India Meteorological Department said.
Eight districts now have excess rainfall, while 26 others are reporting normal rain. Aurangabad, Jalna, Buldana, Dhule, Nandurbar, Sangli, Jalgaon, Solapur and Beed were the deficient districts from June 1 to August 8.
Since then, data shows all these districts have entered the ‘normal’ rainfall category, except Nandurbar and Sangli.

Widespread to fairly widespread rain started over parts of Maharashtra after August 12. There were instances of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state, apart from heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the Western Ghats.
In the 24 hours till August 17 as many as 47 locations in the state recorded over 100mm rain, with Marathwada followed by Madhya Maharashtra reporting the highest number. Such frequent spells wiped out deficiency in the districts of Marathwada, including Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed.
“Till August 8, Mumbai Suburban, Palghar, Thane, Pune, Satara, Nashik, Nagpur, Akola, Washim and Raigad districts showed excess rain. Now, Thane, Nashik, Pune, Satara, Nanded, Akola, Nagpur and Washim are showing excess rainfall for the June till August 22 period,” an IMD official said.

On Tuesday, above normal rain was reported from parts of Maharashtra. Madhya Maharashtra received four times the normal amount in single day, while Marathwada had five times the normal rain.
On Wednesday, active monsoon conditions prevailed over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, while normal conditions prevailed over Marathwada and Vidarbha.
Skymet Weather Services said central parts of the country witnessed a monsoon encompassing various states during the recent spell.
“Heavy rain was recorded on Tuesday and Wednesday over central Maharashtra and adjoining parts, decreasing the deficiency in parts of Marathwada and other locations in central India,” sources said.
