Madhubani paintings adorn coaches of Sampark Kranti
Patna: The East Central Railway (ECR) has given a fresh look to the coaches of Darbhanga-New Delhi Sampark Kranti Express (12565/12566) with the traditional art of Madhubani paintings. The new-look train left Darbhanga on Thursday, much to the excitement of its passengers.
ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar said a small function was held at Hajipur station when the train reached there.
“Railway officials of Sonepur and Samastipur divisions were present on the occasion. Keeping in view the popularity of this famous art, the railways has decided to decorate more superfast trains from Bihar with Madhubani paintings,” he said.
Kumar said Madhubani station under Samastipur division was declared the second best at an all India railway station beautification contest held recently. “The walls of Patna Junction have also been decorated with Madhubani paintings to popularize the art and the culture of Mithilanchal,” he said.
According to the CPRO, the idea to adorn the station walls and coaches of superfast trains with Madhubani paintings is to create awareness among the people about the beauty and importance of this art in Bihar. “The railways has adorned about 9414 square feet area of Madhubani station, which is a visual delight to the passengers,” he said, adding the new concept of adorning coaches of superfast trains originating from Bihar with Madhubani paintings was to encourage local artists who had proficiency in this art form.
