Uttar Pradesh: Ambedkar's statue found damaged in Mirzapur
VARANASI: A portion of the statue of BR Ambedkar placed at a disputed land was found damaged at Khajuraula village in Adalhat area of Mirzapur district on Friday. The police brought the statue at the police station after convincing the angry villagers.
According to reports, local natives noticed the damaged finger of the statue in the morning. Soon the news spread like a wildfire and natives of dalit basti started assembling near the statue, and tension gripped the locality.

The police force from many police stations and administrative officials reached there after getting information. Chunar SDM Chhatrapal Yadav and CO Sudhir Kumar went to the spot to talk to the people and take firsthand account of the incident. The villagers alleged that some miscreants damaged the statue at night.
Chunar SDM said that the statue was placed recently on a piece of disputed land. The dispute is between Dayashankar Sonkar and Prabhu Ram is in the court. He denied that the statue was damaged, and said that only the plaster of a finger got decayed.
After hours-long parley the officials succeeded in convincing the villagers, and the statue was removed from the place. The officials claimed that the situation is under control.
