ARAMBAG: It was love’s labour lost for the Ukrainian woman who travelled 6,000km to Hooghly to find out that the man she had fallen in love with was already married. The woman was then sent back home by the cops.
Nadia Lapuchok, 26, a nurse working with a government hospital in
Ukraine, got introduced to Arambag resident Prasenjit Karmakar two years back. Karmakar, a small poultry farm owner, had exchanged numbers with her and started talking over messaging platforms.
Sensing Nadia’s interest in India and religious places, Karmakar started showing her photographs of religious places like
Kamarpukur and
Jayrambati. Nadia got interested in knowing the country more and their friendship grew deeper.
She flew down to Kolkata six days back and stayed at a hotel for a night and then headed to Arambag. She took a room on rent where Karmakar met her for the first time. The hotel manager saw them falling out with each other over some issue and sensed trouble. Locals alerted cops. Nadia told them that her visa was valid for three months and she wanted to stay here. Karmakar was adamant and told police that he was in no position to marry her.
“She was not aware of his marriage. Primarily it seems that she had fallen in love with him. We have arranged for her return back home,” said Krishanu Roy, SDPO, Arambag.
