HYDERABAD: Warangal police commissioner Vishwanath Ravinder had a miraculous escape but one of his relatives travelling in another car succumbed to injuries when a truck rammed into their vehicles in the wee hours of Friday on the city’s outskirts at Allapur toll gate, Toopran, on National Highway-44 that links Nizamabad to Hyderabad.
The deceased relative of the Warangal CP has been identified as G Anita, 49, a homemaker and resident of Premnagar in Erragadda.
“We shifted the victim to KIMS immediately but she was declared dead due to head injury at the hospital. The deceased’s body has been handed over to her relatives after post-mortem examination,” said the police official.
Eight others were injured in the mishap, including four toll booth staff, as the lorry driver also rammed into a toll booth before speeding away. Police are verifying CCTV footage at the spot and have formed a special team to arrest the absconding lorry driver.
Toopran inspector of police, G Lingeswara Rao, told TOI that the mishap occurred around 1.30am on Friday on the highway when the IPS officer was returning to Hyderabad along with family members from Dharmabad via Basara in two separate cars.
Ravinder had taken charge as Warangal CP in March 2018 after his stint as joint commissioner of police in Hyderabad traffic police department.
