BJP MLA wants Sultanpur renamed
FAIZABAD: BJP MLA Deomani Dwivedi has moved a resolution in the state assembly to rename Sultanpur as Kush Bhawan Pur. According to Dwivedi, who represents Lambhua seat of the district, said that it was founded by Kush, the son of Lord Rama.
According to him, the name — Sultanpur — was forcibly imposed by Alauddin Khilji. Narrating the story, he said: “Enraged by the killing of two Arab horse dealers here by the local king, Khilji attacked the then Kush Bhawan Pur.
After defeating the king changed the name of the area from Kush Bhawan Pur to Sultanpur.”
The MLA said that he had moved a resolution in state assembly under rule 103 on August 27 which has been accepted by Business Advisory Committee of the legislative assembly for the discussion in the next session.
Talking to TOI, Dwivedi said , “My demand is based on public sentiments to restore the name of the area as it was during ancient time.”
“According to the legend, this area was the kingdom of King Kush, and there was his grand palace located here. That’s why I went for Kush Bhawan Pur,” Dwivedi said.
