PATNA: The railways has completed track restoration work on the Barauni-Katihar route falling under the Sonepur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) after subsidence caused by heavy rainfall on Sunday. A goods train was allowed to pass safely at restricted speed on the Lakhimpur-Sahibpur Kamal station route at 12pm on Wednesday.
According to ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar, “The newly laid tracks are under the surveillance of railway track engineers who are still camping at the site.
After getting clearance from a team of railway experts regarding the fitness of tracks, the railways will allow mail and express trains to run in the flood-affected Barauni-Katihar route.”
Meanwhile, at least 15 passenger trains running on the route were cancelled on Wednesday. They included the Saharsa-Patna Rajya Rani Express (12567/12568), Patliputra Junction-Saharsa Janhit Express (13206), Kamakhya-Rajendra Nagar Terminal Capital Express (13247), Sikkim-Mahananda Express (15484), Katihar-Patna Intercity Express (15713/15714), Barauni-Katihar passenger (55222), Darbhanga-Katihar passenger (55224), Katihar-Hajipur passenger (55539) and Jamalpur-Tilrath passenger (73451/73452, 73452/73453 and 73454).
The railways also diverted the routes of some passenger trains like the Avadh Assam Express (15910), Jaipur Kamakhya Kavi Guru Express (19709), Amrapali Express (15708), Ajmer Kishanganj Garib Nawaz Express (15716) and Saharsa-Amritsar Jan Sewa Express (15210).
“Instead of running on the Barauni-Katihar route, these trains will run on the Samastipur-Narhan-Khagaria route till normalcy is fully restored,” the CPRO told this reporter, adding the Anand Vihar-Guwahati Express (12506) which normally ran on the Pataliputra-Barauni-Katihar route, would run on the Patna-Kiul-Malda route for the time being.
Besides, the Hatia-Purnia Court Express, which was short-terminated at the Patna Junction on Wednesday, will originate from the same station on Thursday.
