ARARIA: The police have failed to arrest any of the accused in a minor girl’s tonsuring case under the Jokihat police station area in Araria district. The victim was allegedly tonsured and assaulted by her neighbours for telling someone in the village that a girl in their family had committed suicide by consuming poison.
The incident happened on August 30. Police sources said the girl was allegedly dragged from her house by her neighbours and locked in a room.
However, an FIR was lodged by the girl at Mahila Thana on September 3. All the accused have been absconding since then.
Araria SP Dhurat Sayli Savlaram said the matter was being investigated with highest priority and senior police officers were in touch with the father of the victim. “She will be provided justice for being harassed and the accused will be brought to book soon,” she said.
The SP, however, said the victim denied in her statement to the police that she was paraded naked in the courtyard. “The girl has not mentioned anything in her FIR about being paraded naked,” the SP said.
