The Coral Springs High School cross country team is hoping to run to the state meet this season.

With its top 7 back from a team that finished eighth in region, the girls seemed primed to make a run at the state meet. Senior Yasmeen Hammad, who was a state qualifier with a 20:34 clocking, leads the way. On the boys’ side, senior Isaac Louigene was region runner-up and placed third in the Broward County Athletic Association meet. His best time last season was 16:25 and he finished 25th at the state meet.

“We currently have 19 girls and 16 boys with some more freshmen still turning in paperwork,” said Colts coach Brantley Barr, who is in his 39th year as a coach with the school’s cross country and track program. “The girls are hoping to move up enough to qualify for the state meet. The boys return only two from last year’s state qualifying team and are rebuilding in many ways. Louigene was an individual qualifier finishing second in the region and looks to return to state.”

The Colts will run the five BCAA regular season meets, four invitationals and the BCAA championship before they get to the district meet, which they will host on Oct. 23.
